From Day Trading to Lead Scoring: How David Moore Built Stalex.ai Using AI Verification

The Origin Story: Getting Replaced Fuels a Better Solution

There’s a particular kind of motivation that comes from being replaced. For David Moore, that moment became the spark that ignited Stalex.ai.

David had landed a sales role with a friend, and he was crushing it. But more importantly, he was solving a real problem: how to find, qualify, and organize high-intent leads efficiently. He built internal tools using AI to automate and streamline the prospecting process. When he pitched these tools to his boss, the response was encouraging—at first. Then came the pivot: “I need to get this somewhere cheaper,” his boss said, bringing in an offshore resource with a similar (but far inferior) product.

That rejection was the moment David decided to build something better. He and his brother Christian took everything David had learned from that sales role and decided to turn it into a product for the people who needed it most: small business owners and sales teams who couldn’t afford enterprise-level solutions.

“We’re building this for the little guy,” David explains. “We’re building this for David versus Goliath.”

The MVP That Almost Drove Them Crazy (Thanks to AI Hallucinations)

Here’s something they don’t tell you in startup school: AI will lie to you.

David’s first instinct was to build the MVP himself using Claude, with no infrastructure, no GitHub, no database—just pure code and a crude HTML terminal. He designed it to look like his old trading platforms because that’s what felt familiar to him.

But there was a problem. His buddy, the guy he was building this for, took one look at the trading terminal interface and basically said, “I understand this will make us money, but I can’t even use it.” It was like asking someone who’s never coded to read Python—completely overwhelming.

That feedback became a cornerstone of their design philosophy. But the real challenge was dealing with AI’s creative interpretation of “done.”

“We had oftentimes where we were like, oh my gosh, we’re done,” David recalls. “And it lied. For the first month of us creating that MVP, we kept getting so excited, so hopeful. And then my brother would look back and you’d be like, no, there’s so much more work to be done. It’s like a kid sitting in the back of the car, like ‘are we there yet, are we there yet?’”

Building a System of Checks and Balances

Eventually, frustration turned into innovation. David and Christian decided they wouldn’t tolerate AI hallucinations anymore. They built a system of checks and balances—now up to 20+ of them—that verify every output before it reaches the user.

This wasn’t just about accuracy. It was about confidence. “We wouldn’t be able to push a product that we could verify, right? We wouldn’t be able to bring anything to market with confidence,” David says.

What’s remarkable is how they achieved this efficiency. Using Claude and AI agents, Christian directed the system to accomplish what normally takes weeks of development work in just days. In one instance, they got three weeks of work done in a single day while using only 15% of their Fable budget. They reduced their burn-down by 90% through smart prompting and custom tooling.

The key insight: constraints breed innovation. By forcing themselves to work with AI verification systems, they accidentally built a more robust product.

Simplicity as a Competitive Advantage

When David finally showed his buddy the revised MVP—the one that actually made sense to use—the reaction was pure joy. “It was like a kid riding a bike without the training wheels and you just see him go straight down the hill,” David describes. “He’s not even worried about crashing. He’s just going to go fly.”

That moment became his proudest achievement. Stalex.ai isn’t just a lead scoring platform. It’s a lead scoring platform that your grandmother could use if she wanted to. No technical knowledge required. No headaches. No needing a Tylenol after navigating the interface.

This focus on simplicity directly addresses a pain point David observed in competitors: “A lot of competitors, we started to notice that you just can’t shift through anything. It’s a headache.” Stalex.ai was built as the antidote to that frustration.

Building the Roadmap Around Your First Customer

David’s approach to product development is refreshingly straightforward: How does this benefit my buddy?

Not “How does this scale to enterprise?” Not “How does this compete with Salesforce?” Just: “Does this help the person I built this for?”

This customer-obsessed approach shaped every decision on the roadmap. They’re not trying to sell to the big guys with established CRM platforms. They’re building for small business owners, sales teams, and scrappy entrepreneurs who need to punch above their weight.

“The beautiful part about how we built it is that it’s not that we have to teach you how to do it. It’s we have to teach you how to read the ability to copy the whole functionality and system,” David explains. The product is designed to be so intuitive that onboarding is almost frictionless.

Hiring the Hungry Ones

As they look to expand beyond just David and Christian, they’re being intentional about who they bring on board. David’s criteria is simple: hungry people.

“The main thing that we’re really looking for is somebody who’s hungry, man. Somebody who’s driven. Somebody who really knows where they’re standing and they know where they need to go,” he says.

The good news? Hungry people are easy to spot. They’re outspoken. They’re in your face about it. They’re usually around the same age and energy level. David and Christian are mining their network of connections from the past few years, identifying who would excel at data work, backend development, or customer-facing roles.

And because they’ve built such intuitive internal systems (with a shout-out to Obsidian for helping them map out proprietary processes), bringing new team members up to speed isn’t about teaching them everything from scratch. It’s about teaching them to read and replicate systems that are already proven.

The Bigger Picture

What started as a frustration with being replaced by cheaper offshore labor turned into a mission to build tools that level the playing field for small business owners. Stalex.ai represents something bigger than just another SaaS product: it’s about democratizing sales intelligence.

In David’s words: “God had his hand working here.” Whether you believe that or not, there’s no denying the momentum. A founder who understands sales from the inside out. A technical co-founder who can wrangle AI into submission. A product built for actual users, not for hypothetical enterprise deals.

That’s the recipe for something special.
